BookPilot Privacy Policy
Last updated: June 15, 2026
BookPilot ("BookPilot," "we," "us") is a reading companion app that lets you
ask questions about a book you're reading and get answers based only on what
you've read so far. This policy explains what information we collect, how we
use it, who we share it with, and the choices you have. By using BookPilot you
agree to this policy.
Information we collect
- Account information. When you create an account we collect
your email address. If you use Sign in with Apple, Apple may provide
a private relay email instead of your real address. We use a third-party
authentication provider (Supabase) to manage sign-in.
- Reading activity. The books in your library and your
reading position (chapter and page) so we can sync your progress and enforce
the spoiler boundary — the AI only sees content up to where you've read.
- Chat content. The questions you ask the in-app AI and the
answers it returns, so your conversation history is available to you across
sessions.
- Content you upload. If you upload your own book files
(EPUB/PDF), we store and process them to power reading and the AI features
for your account.
- Subscription status. Whether you have an active BookPilot
Pro subscription. Purchases are processed by Apple — we never receive or
store your payment card details.
- Basic technical data. Limited diagnostic information needed
to operate and troubleshoot the service.
How we use your information
- To provide the core service: reading, syncing your progress, and answering
your questions without spoiling content you haven't reached.
- To generate AI answers. When you ask a question, your question and the
relevant passages from the book (only up to your current reading position)
are sent to our AI provider, OpenAI, to produce a response. We instruct the
model to use only those passages.
- To manage your account, subscription, and usage limits.
- To maintain security and prevent abuse.
Service providers we share data with
We do not sell your personal information. We share data only with the providers
we rely on to run BookPilot:
- Supabase — authentication and database hosting.
- OpenAI — processes your questions and the relevant book
excerpts to generate answers.
- Render — hosts our backend servers.
- Apple — processes in-app purchases and, if used, Sign in
with Apple.
- Expo — delivers the app and over-the-air updates.
Each provider processes data on our behalf to deliver the service.
Data retention and deletion
We keep your information for as long as your account is active. You can delete
your account at any time from within the app at
Account → Delete account. Deleting your account permanently
removes your library, uploaded books, reading progress, chat history, and
subscription record from our systems. Subscription cancellations are managed
through your Apple ID settings.
Security
We use industry-standard measures to protect your information, including
encrypted connections and access controls. No method of transmission or storage
is completely secure, but we work to protect your data.
Children's privacy
BookPilot is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect
personal information from them. If you believe a child has provided us
information, contact us and we will delete it.
Your choices and rights
You can access and delete your data through the in-app account deletion flow.
Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights to access, correct,
or delete your personal information; contact us to make a request.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we'll revise the
"Last updated" date above. Continued use of BookPilot after a change means you
accept the updated policy.
